Description

This sterling silver medal depicts the patron saint of animals, St. Francis, with God's creatures that he so loved. The Franciscan way of life aspires “to follow the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ and to walk in his footsteps.” May the intercession of St. Francis empower each of us to walk in the footsteps of Christ every moment of our lives!

St. Francis of Assisi was an Italian saint born in the 12th century to a rich family. As a young man, Francis heard a call from God to abandon his wealth and high social status, embracing a radical lifestyle of poverty and penance. This later led to the formation of the Franciscan Order, approved by Pope Innocent III.

St. Francis bore the wounds of Christ, also known as the stigmata, on his body. His simple habit included three knots on the cord that represent the Evangelical Counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience.
