Father’s Day is the perfect time to reflect on the example of St. Joseph. He sacrificed for his family, protected them from evil and prayed without ceasing.

We can nurture these same habits and virtues through devotions like the scapular, Rosary and miraculous medal.

The Scapular: a Father’s Armor

By wearing the brown scapular, a man imitates St. Joseph in his Marian devotion and intention to live a life of purity and prayer.

Around a father’s shoulder, the scapular becomes spiritual armor. There’s no better armor than the protection of Our Lady, strengthened with the humility of St. Joseph.

The Rosary: a Father’s Spiritual Sword

A father with a Rosary in his hand is never alone in spiritual warfare. When a father leads his family in the Rosary, he builds up his family in grace, trust and unity. He silently proclaims, as St. Joseph did, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

The Miraculous Medal: a Father’s Shield

God entrusted St. Joseph with caring for Jesus and Mary. To do that St. Joseph had to be humble, courageous and deeply prayerful.

In that same spirit, the miraculous medal reminds fathers that their strength comes not from themselves, but from the grace of God, especially through the intercession of Our Lady.

Honor a Father in His Vocation

Who is a father figure in your life who reminds you of St. Joseph? Who is the man who stays true to the Lord, even when no one’s watching?

This Father’s Day, honor him with a scapular, Rosary or miraculous medal. (Be sure to order by June 10 so it arrives in time.)

St. Joseph, Pray for Us

This Father’s Day, let us entrust all fathers to the intercession of St. Joseph. May they walk in his footsteps with courage and humility. And may the Blessed Virgin Mary, to whom St. Joseph was so devoted, cover all fathers with her mantle of grace.
