Our Lady of Mount Carmel gave St. Simon Stock the Brown Scapular in 1251. She promised her special help to all who wore it devoutly. However, she did not guarantee miracles.
Nevertheless, many strange and wonderful things have happened to people who wore the Brown Scapular.
The Brown Scapular doesn’t possess power in itself. All miracles should be attributed to God’s intervention, which aids everyone who is devoted to Our Lady.
Here are three miracles connected to the Brown Scapular devotion.
1. Stronger Than Lightning
In late 19th-century Italy, a shepherd was tending his sheep when a violent thunderstorm erupted. The young man was struck by lightning. Although he survived, his body was charred. But his Brown Scapular was completely untouched.
2. Preserved From Flames
In 1957, several homes in the German town of Westboden caught fire. The inhabitants of one of them had a Brown Scapular hanging on the front door. While the surrounding houses burned to the ground, this dwelling was unharmed.
3. Saved From Death
A French priest went to say Mass. Before the liturgy began, he realized he left his Brown Scapular in his room and went to retrieve it.
During Mass, a man shot the priest in the back, but he hardly seemed to notice. He later discovered the bullet was stuck to his Brown Scapular.
Again, miracles are not guaranteed. But our Blessed Mother has promised to watch over everyone clothed with her scapular.
