One of the Mass readings sometimes used for the Second Sunday of Advent is Isaiah 11:1–10. This passage foretells the coming of Christ and offers a striking vision of His reign of peace, declaring that “the lion shall eat hay like the ox” and “the baby shall play by the cobra’s den.”
Seems hard to believe with all of the hate and chaos we witness in the world, doesn’t it?
Although our Lord’s perfect peace will not fully take hold in this world until the end of time, you can help it take root in your life right now!
Here are three easy ways to bring more peace to yourself and the people you encounter.
1. Pray the Rosary.
Our Lady is the Queen of Peace and has promised her aid to those who devoutly say their beads. Families especially should pray the Rosary together. As the Venerable Fr. Patrick Peyton said, “The family that prays together stays together.”
To get started, shop our collection, which includes durable children’s rosaries.
2. Create a peaceful atmosphere in your home.
Relax and soothe your senses with beautiful religious statues, paintings and scented beeswax candles. Implement quiet times with no TV, radio or unnecessary phone use. Set up a special prayer space where you can meet God in silence.
3. Make an extra effort to be kind in person and online.
People have become more toxic to each other. Here are some ways to counter this behavior:
-
Smile at the cashier when making a purchase and ask how their day’s going.
-
Refrain from getting into online debates. If you must respond, do so charitably.
-
Call a friend or family member whom you haven’t spoken with in awhile.
-
Ask forgiveness from anyone you have hurt.
Peace doesn’t just happen. It comes from our intentional efforts, directed by God’s grace. Commit now to be the peacemaker the world so desperately needs!
