On October 1 we celebrate one of the most beloved Carmelite saints: St. Thérèse of Lisieux. Her spirituality was based on a radical, childlike trust in God and performing small acts of kindness with great love.
She reminds us that we don’t have to be missionaries or martyrs to become saints. You simply have to lovingly follow God’s will in the life He has given you — whether you’re a student, parent, truck driver, professor or artist.
Here are some of her quotes to inspire you to trust in our Father’s love.
“We can never have too much confidence in the good God… As we hope in Him so shall we receive.”
“Jesus points out to me the only way which leads to Love’s furnace – that way is self-surrender – it is the confidence of the little child who sleeps without fear in its father’s arms.”
“It is true that Love knows no such word as ‘impossible,’ for it deems ‘all things possible, all things allowed.’”
“Our Lord’s love shines out just as much through a little soul who yields completely to His Grace as it does through the greatest.”
“You know well enough that Our Lord does not look so much at the greatness of our actions, nor even at their difficulty, but at the love with which we do them.”
“In trial or difficulty I have recourse to Mother Mary, whose glance alone is enough to dissipate every fear.”
St. Thérèse of Lisieux, pray for us!
