Description

Born in the early 200s, St. Christopher was believed to be a very tall and sturdy man.  He wanted to serve the most powerful king in the world.  After serving human kings and even the Devil, Christopher finally found the Christ was the ultimate king.  Even the Devil ran in fear at the sign of the Cross.

After converting to Christianity, Christopher dedicated much of his time to helping travelers cross a strong river. One day a child asked for his help to cross the river. While Christopher carried the child across the river, the child became very heavy. Once they reached the other side, Christopher asked why he had become so heavy. The child said that he was the Christ Child and he carried the weight of the world on his shoulders. After this encounter, Christopher traveled far and wide converting thousands to the faith.

Christopher eventually was arrested by the Roman Empire and was ordered to offer sacrifice to their gods.  After refusing, the Romans tried to get him to give up his faith with bribes of money and women. Two women were sent to seduce him, but he instead converted them to Christianity. When bribes failed, multiple assassination attempts on his life also failed. St. Christopher was finally beheaded under the rule of Roman Emperor Decius in 251 AD. St. Christopher is widely known as the patron saint of travelers.
