St. Therese

$5.95

St. Therese of Lisieux comes from a family full of saints! Both of her parents have been canonized by the Catholic Church, and her sister Leonie is now a venerable. Wearing your St. Therese medal is a beautiful reminder to live her “Little Way” in every moment of your day!

St. Therese’s mother, St. Zelie Martin, died of breast cancer when she was very young. This had a great impact on the young girl, who turned to the Blessed Mother in her grief. Her father, St. Louis Martin, raised Therese along with her four sisters, who, one by one, joined the convent. St. Therese was eager to follow in their footsteps, but she was only 14 years old! The Carmelite order would not accept her as a postulant until she gained permission from the bishop himself to enter the cloister at age 15.

The life of St. Therese was short but impactful. She is best known for her autobiography called The Story of a Soul, written under obedience to her Carmelite superiors. This is where the French saint documented her now-famous “Little Way”. This simple path to holiness earned St. Therese the distinction of Doctor of the Church after her canonization. She died in 1897 at the young age of 24.

On her deathbed, St. Therese told her sisters, “After my death, I will let fall a shower of roses. I will spend my Heaven doing good upon earth. I will raise up a mighty host of little saints.” Our St. Therese medal depicts the saint with an armful of these roses, ready to shower them down from heaven for those who ask! The back of the medal also features the imprint of a rose. St. Therese of Lisieux, pray for us!
